Long time, no see!
As many subscribers know, I am a reporter for the Turlock Journal, and my schedule can get a little hectic when covering local prep sports. Now that graduations have come and gone, I have some more free time on my hands. Starting today, I will try to be much more active on Substack.
In the months I’ve been away, I’ve interviewed a handful of top prospects from across the baseball landscape and am excited to finally share some of those conversations.
In the coming weeks, I will have a feature story on Rockies pitching prospect Jace Kaminska and his off-season job as a cattle rancher, a conversation with Mariners outfield prospect Aidan Smith about growing up in basketball-crazed Chapel Hill, and a chat with Seattle’s 2023 first-round pick Jonny Farmelo on how how his faith is fueling his quest for greatness.
To get the ball rolling again, here is a never-before-seen interview with top Mariners prospects Lazaro Montes and Michael Arroyo from April’s Modesto Nuts media day, where they reflected on last year’s historic run to the California League Championship, spoke about playing in front of the passionate Modesto fans, and looked ahead to the highly anticipated 2024 season. And a special thanks to Nuts bench coach Hecmart Nieves for serving as their translator.
Enjoy!
