WEST SACRAMENTO — Nick Kurtz, the top-ranked Athletics prospect and the No. 35 overall prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, made his big league debut on Wednesday, April 24, 2025.
Facing Texas Rangers starting pitcher Kumar Rocker in the first inning in his first major league at-bat, the 22-year-old first baseman tagged an RBI single past second baseman Marcus Semien to make it a 3-0 ballgame. The A’s went on to win 5-2.
Kurtz, who was selected fourth overall by the A’s in the 2024 MLB Draft, spoke to the media following the game, describing his emotions as he made his childhood dreams a reality in West Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder finished 1-for-4 with the RBI base knock, a groundout in his second at-bat, a pop out to the third base side in his third appearance, and a strikeout in his last chance on the night in the seventh inning.
